Free Sweet Corn Feed Took Place
Wednesday, August 5th at Farmers Market

Sweet Corn

On August 5th, 2009, the produce vendors of the Carroll Farmers Market showed everyone how great Iowa summer sweet corn tastes.  The feed began at 3:45 and continued until 5:30 with vendors giving away cooked ears of corn at their Wednesday market in downtown Carroll.  Volunteers from the USDA, M&M Divide RC&D, and RSVP cooked all of the corn on the cob and passed around the butter and salt.  Hy-Vee store in Carroll provided the supplies as well as free pop to everyone.  The sweet corn feed was a chance for the Farmers Market vendors to say thank you to their customers.

Kids Vendor Day at Farmers MarketKids Vendor Day Poster

On Wednesday, August 12, 2009, the Carroll Farmers Market offered young people a chance to learn about commerce and make some money before school starts.  Farmers Market in Carroll, hosted a Kids Vendor Day giving students a free opportunity to bring and sell items they make or grow.  Some items included: flowers, produce, artwork, greeting cards, jewelry, baked goods, or other hand crafted original items.  All the money they collected, they kept.  There was no charge for kids to utilize the Farmers Market on this special day.  “We want to encourage young people to pursue their interests and produce their talents.  Young gardeners, woodworkers, potters, or bakers need a chance to display their work, and sell it to the public.  They can sell items on the spot, or take orders for future delivery.”

September 26, 2009- Kid Vendor Day and Pumpkin Painting
The popular Kid Vendor Day returned for the second time this season. This offered students under 18 the chance to sell their crafts, produce, woodworking, artwork, and other homemade or homegrown items to the Market customers.

All kids had the opportunity to take part in the Pumpkin Painting event on the same day. Children bought a pumpkin at the market or brought one from home. They then took it to the special arts area where adult volunteers assisted in making their pumpkin a great work of kid art. Paints were available to create a vegetable veritable masterpiece. Laura Comito from Artworks Studio was on hand from 8:30 to 10:00 to teach creative skills in art. The art lesson was free and the kids took their pumpkin art home as soon as the paint dried.
